Touhou Kisouken ~ Infinite Blade Pavilion (東方鬼葬剣) is a Touhou Project fangame developed Len in 2019 with the Danmakufu PH3 engine.

It`s mostly inspired in Wily Beast and Weakest Creature and in ido´s Mystical Power Plant

Gameplay overview

Gameplay revolves around a combination of factors: a "Skill Tree" similar to that of Mystical Power Plant that increases by collecting leaf items, special attacks that can be used by consuming Skill Tree levels, and a "tension gauge" that increases or decreases the amount of items dropped by enemies.

When Skill lvl. is at least at lvl. 3, Skill Release can be used.

Controls

Like the official games, uses the standard Touhou control scheme, as well the addition of the Skill Release button.

  • Z: Shoot
  • X: Bomb
  • C: Skill release
  • Shift: Focus

On keyboard, movement can be done using either the arrow keys or the number pad. The gamepad can also be configured using the config program of the game.

Difficulties

The game has 4 difficulty modes. The higher difficulties are, of course, harder, and also have higher scoring potential. The difficulty modes are:

  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard
  • Lunatic

The game also has an Extra stage, in which it´s treated as it´s own difficulty. To unlock Extra, the player has to 1cc the main game on any difficulty. Extra still allows the player to play the Extra stage as other characters and shot types despite not having them cleared in the main game first.

Aside from the Extra Stage, there are also Overdrive spellcards (In Scene Practice), in which the play field is huge,

Scoring

Scoring is highly based on the collecting point items, and blue items from attacking bosses depending on proximity, as well from beating their phases. When the collected point items count reaches a threshold, score bonuses are also awarded.

Playable Characters and Shot weaponry

Infinite Blade Pavilion has 3 playable characters, with 2 shot types each. Each shot type has different shot behavior.

Homing Type of Beautiful Eastern Wind Rapid Fire Type of White Southern Wind
Description: Reimu[A] is a homing shot attacker type. Her shots will chase down any enemy on screen and can attack from sides. Description: Reimu[B] is a direct attacker type. She has shots that can be on wide and rolling focused formation.

  • Evil Spirit-Exorcising Side Wall

Trivia

  • The game´s theme is mostly based in Chinese mythology, from demons, spectres, blacksmiths, etc.
  • Snow Cordie is mostly inspired in Cirno. Possibly a combination of Daiyousei too.
