( CounterAttack )

(CounterAttack) is an arcade scrolling space shooter with deep weapon customization, 4 player local COOP, 8 player online COOP, 32 level branching campaign, and a level editor.

Gameplay Overview

Most CounterAttack levels follow a horizontal scrolling SHMUP style. You progress through a branching campaign until you arrive at one of two possible ending levels. There are 3 special levels that break this mold: the submarine level, tank level, and vertical scrolling level.

Characters / Ships / Styles

There are 8 playable ships/characters:

Marcus Marcus was institutionalized prior to the invasion. He escaped and stole an experimental fighter with a new type of meson shockwave weapon. With this ship he entered the fray and destroyed countless automaton attack drones. While he isn't officially sanctioned and did technically steal a classified craft, it has been determined that he does more good than harm as he carves a path of destruction towards the automaton AI. Special: Meson Shockwave Passive: Twitchshot

Colonel Sloane Sloane is the top Air Force pilot and the natural choice to lead the defence of Earth. She’s been honored with the Air Force Cross, Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, Air Force Combat Action Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, and many more. A natural leader and skilled warrior, Earth's defence couldn’t be in better hands. She can summon her squadron during battle. Special: Support Squadron Passive: Sloan Aura

Biff Biff began weight training at the age of 15. He won Mr Universe at the age of 20 and continued to amaze the world again and again. He personally developed various systems in the X-101 program and knows the fighters as well as anybody. His popularity and skill made him impossible to reject as a candidate for the advanced fighter program. His ship has the B.F.B. installed. Special: B.F.B. Passive: Bigboy

Ayumi The inventor of the meson blaster technology used in only the most advanced weapons today. One of the most intelligent people alive with a remarkable reaction time. Truly an asset on the front lines. Her ship carries a tactical nuclear missile launcher. Her knowledge of both the experimental fighters and Automatons is invaluable on the front lines. Special: Tactical Nuke Passive: Analysis

Major Joe Joe loved flying since as early as he can remember. He spent a short time as a commercial test pilot before his talents were noticed by the military. They were quick to tap his expertise, and since then Joe has mostly worked on top-secret projects. He is more than a qualified technician and familiar with most operational aspects of the X-101s. He was one of the first pilots selected for the advanced fighter program. Special: Turbocharge Gun Passive: Action Joe

Lt. Col. Carl Lt. Col. Carl Peterson was flying since a young age. After joining the airforce, he was quickly promoted following his exemplary performance during several top secret missions. When fighting first broke out with the Automatons Lt. Col. Carl was the test pilot in one of the predecessors of the X-101's. He is credited with being the first human to destroy a wave of Automaton attack drones by using a gravity slingshot to redirect some asteroids. Special: Plasma Strike Passive: Rocker

Sarah Sarah is one of the brightest minds alive today. She played a large role in the discovery of Quantium, the rare material allowing the warping of space-time to generate enormous amounts of energy and achieve FTL. Sarah developed the Quantium systems used to power the upgradeable weapon systems on the X-101 fighters. Special: Shield Passive: Survivor

Jinx Jinx was fascinated by computers, games, and software from an early age. Most of her life has been spent tinkering and manipulating information systems across the globe. While not the best pilot her understanding of computer systems is surpassed by no one. She is able to take over and control Automaton ships during combat. Special: Hackwave Passive: Autorekt

Weapons

This section describes the weapons that you use in the game and elaborates on them further. Stuff like standard shots, focus shots, bombs, weapon pickups that differ in functionality, options, etc. This can be omitted if not relevant to the game in question.

Items

This section describes any and all collectibles that you acquire in the game. An example being any Power Up items or Medals from Battle Garegga. Include secret items such as extra lives as well.

Rank

If the game features a relevant rank system, use this section to discuss it in more detail. Otherwise, this can be omitted.

If a game features a loop system, elaborate on it in detail here. Otherwise, omit this section.

Scoring

This section should cover a general breakdown of the scoring system of the game. Feel free to put the meat and potatoes here. A great example of a scoring section is the DoDonPachi page.

Strategy

See (Template Page)/Strategy for stage maps, enemy and boss descriptions, walkthroughs, and advanced play strategies.

This section details some particular strategic information about the game and its gameplay, such as hidden 1UPs and some basic scoring tricks. For anything particularly deep or highly complex, you can probably leave it in the Strategy page.

(Currently evaluating whether or not this specific section should even include information outside of the separated Strategy pages. Worth thinking about as a community.)

Story

Earth is under attack! The Automations, humanity's own creation, have rebelled. They will stop at nothing short of the complete destruction of their former masters. There is but one hope, the Experimental Space Fighter program.

If there is no story at all, or any information about the setting, then this section can be omitted. Try to include at least small things here when you can.

We have support for wikitables, giving us the potential to add lots of cool info in a small box on the page somewhere, but we are not using them at the moment. I'm just leaving this here so we can have it handy in case we decide to actually use them. Feel free to not use this section.
