Difficulty Modes
Shining Shooting Star has 4 difficulty modes. The higher difficulties are, of course, harder, and also have higher scoring potential. The difficulty modes are:
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Lunatic
The game also has an Extra stage, which is treated as its own difficulty. Extra must be unlocked by getting a 1cc on any difficulty. This is one long stage with one long boss fight.
Basic Mechanics
Stones
Killing big enemies will release stones that variate it´s number value. Collecting them will fill up the Stone gauge. Collecting 6 stone pieces will complete a full stone. When 4 full stones are made, Overwhelming Power will be available
Power Overwhelming
Power Overwhelming is the game´s Hyper system that enhances shot power, makes enemies more agressive and can attract items without the use of the item get border line. Getting hit while having Power Overwhelming active will grant protection at the cost of losing 1 bomb. If getting hit while the Power Overwhelming is available, it will automatically activate while losing 2 bombs. If the Power Overwhelming is activated during a boss spell card attack, the spell card bonus will be lost.
Power Rank
This mechanic is the game´s rank system that adjusts the intensity of the patterns. It increases when attacking enemies and collecting items. When using Overwhelming Power, Power Rank will go way too high and make enemies agressivier.
Point of Collection
Just like the official Touhou games, all point and power items will be autocollected above the Point of Collection, which is a line high up on the screen. Stars are not autocollected above this line.
